Video I : Newsnight, Social network sites and the damage of it

Everybody knows a social networking site like facbook or twitter. The people who has an account on one of these sites, ‘their brains being rotted’ is what the daily mail claimed.

One in five adults are using the social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter an MySpace. Also 49% of children between 8-17 years old are using it.

Susan Greenfield (director of The Royal Institution) says that the brains change, when the environment changes. Although she says that it has nog been proven yet. She hopes that the government will put some money into exploring.

Dr Ben Goldacre, author of ‘Bad Science’, disagrees with Susan Greenfield and think it’s ridiculious. He think that Ms. Greenfield is abusing her position. She should be promoting the public understanding for what science do.

Dr Aric Sigman, Research Psychologist, think that we should be aware of the damage it may cost. He thinks it’s important to promote the physical instead of the virtual contact. Also there is more evidence that says that the brain damage is done by screen media.

Video II : Virgin Media and internal communication

Abi Signorelli, Director Internal Communication of Virgin Media, she is going to join a ‘social media workshop’ on the 24th of June.

In this workshop she is going to share the things Virgin Media has been doing, like getting aboard with Twitter, and other things that are related tot social media and internal communication. Also she’s interested in the thoughts of the people who will joining her during the workshop.

She tells about ‘boo’, and she’s explaining that a ‘boo’ is a phoneblog. It’s a bit like Twitter, but more like a podcast. It’s quicklier than a podcast and it will record short thoughts or an interview.

At Virgin media they wanted to get the basics right with Internal Communication. They had to be sure that the traditional stuff was working right. After that the can start with ding new things. And that’s where Twitter, Boo and Flogging join the company.
